Tips for doing radio interviews
Radio show hosts are almost always rushed for time and being creative in their questioning. Combining those two things will help you be a better radio guest.
This is what you do:
List a bunch of questions you would like to be asked or anticipate would be interesting to a radio audience. Remember things are done in very short snippets.
For each question formulate your answer; then orally time how long it takes to answer the question. Once you have that, indicate with the question how long it takes for the question/answer. Having all your questions and answers timed out will help you look good to the host and make their jobs easier because they know how much time they have to fill. So a typical question would go like this:
1. How do you come up with ideas for your books?
Answer: 1 minute.
2. Do you read e-books?
Answer: 2 minutes
3. How does the quality of e-books compare to traditional publishing?
Answer: 2 minutes.
4. What is your book about?
Answer: 1 minute
5. How will reading your novel impact our readers? (How will it better their lives in some way?)
Answer: 2 minutes
Let's say your host has 4 minutes of airtime to fill. He/She can pick and choose from the questions you provide to fill that time without awkward silence and make the best use of the time you've been given.
Stand up it will make you less breathy,
For web radio interviews you will be asked to make sure you call on a land line. Better safe than sorry do not call on your cell. Also you will likely have more time than you would for your morning radio show so be prepared. Have answers to questions like
Who inspires you? Why did you start to write?
In any sort of interview you want to show how reading your work will enhance the lives of the readers. Bonus points if you can tie some aspect of your story into current events

The Starting line of Promotions by Dominique Eastwick
Okay for those who don't know where to start maybe this will help!
Here is my friendly check list...
• Blog/Website (is it user
friendly? Is it up to date with all your book covers)
IS YOUR NAME ON THE FRONT HEADER
OF YOUR BLOG?
You have no idea how many people
don't have their author name as their Header. It is by far the MOST
IMPORTANT
thing to have on your
blog...Hands down.
Okay that said moving on...
1. Is there a contact me area for readers to email you with questions? This can also be your about me page.
2. Is there a page to talk about WIP readers love to know what you are working on?
3. Is there a button to have people follow your blog by email? A link to follow you on twitter/FB ect-- make it one click easy!
4. Is there a page with all your books? If you only have one then start with a page for just that book. Blurb, excerpt (only after line edits are done please), cover, and any reviews you might have gotten.
5. Do you have too many graphics? Music playing in the back ground? Think about removing those. (nothing gets me off a site quicker then music in the background)
6. Do you have a Press Kit. Check out this site to see an amazing one http://www.sloanparker.com/press.htm
7. **** Do you have cover art on the main page somewhere, like in one of the side columns. Please this is your best marketing tool. USE IT (people will come back to you blog and go what was that book she was talking about, if you make them search through archives of old blogs you will probably lose a sale.)***
• Facebook/Twitter/Tumbler
use the one you are most comfortable with.
1. Do you have a FB profile page that people can tag?
2. Do you post about fun things not related to writing or your book?
3. Are you # properly on twitter?
4. Do you engage other readers, authors, people?
5. Do you have your Cover art in a COVER ART album on your FB page. With Links on where to by it?
.
• Do you have your
blog/website links on the above?
1.
If the reader has to search for your website they
won't. Make sure links are in the about you on Facebook and in your profile on
Twitter.
• Have you starting looking
at places that will host you when your book comes out?
1. Make sure to look outside the authors find a few places that will host
you. Give away a book, do an interview. You love your book this is when it’s
okay to brag and sell. You are excited we get it. We want to be excited for
you.
2. Do Character interviews READERS love those.
• Have you asked for help?
Other authors are almost always willing to help and remember when you help others they are more willing to help you.
.
• Have you set up a google
alert on your Pen Name and book title?
To do so go here http://www.google.com/alerts?hl=en
• Is your Profile up to date
on Amazon?
You can't set up an Author page on Amazon until your book
comes out. But once its live please set one up. Studies show that people are
more likely to buy again from authors with pictures on their author page. https://authorcentral.amazon.com/"
target="_blank"
rel="nofollow">https://authorcentral.amazon.com/
.
Hope this helps, I am always happy to work with new authors and look at Blogs just email me and ask.

to keep them both alive.
Kiloran only ever wanted to keep Lucas safe. But no matter how hard she
tries danger seems to be a step behind them. Now creating a public front can
she break through the wall Lucas has erected around his heart? Those same walls
she helped cement.
Can true love conquer and forgive all or will it kill them both?

So You’ve Written a Romance by Valerie Mann
I am thrilled to have Author and Friend Valerie Mann here to kick off our first blog today.
Congratulations! You’ve written a romance book! Undoubtedly, there’s a great plot, beautiful heroine, hawt hero and just the right amount of LUV. You think the cover is great and if you’re lucky, you’re still friends with your editor.
Got some news for you…
The writing’s the easy part. Now the fun really begins—PROMOTION.
Want to sell your beloved book? Do you want readers to fall in love right along with Miss Pretty and Mister Hottie? Then readers need to know they exist. And unfortunately, unless you’re a New York Times Bestselling author, your publisher is not going to do much in the way of promoting your book for you other than linking to it on their website.
I touched briefly on the topic of promotion (among other things) over at fellow author Rachel Leigh’s blog. This is an important topic…it never gets old.
So, without further ado, here’s a short list of what an author of any genre needs to do to get her books into the hands of readers:
1. Get a FACEBOOK page. It’s the number ONE social media site on the planet. Post
at least once per day to keep your author name exposed. Post about every single
thing that happens with your book like reviews, sales, etc. Working on a new book?
Let your followers know. Just signed a new contract? Ditto. Don’t worry about
boring anyone. The purpose of your Facebook is to promote your author self.
2. Get a BLOG. I like Blogger, it’s user-friendly and free. Wordpress and Webs are other
good choices. Both are free. Free is good. Then don’t forget to blog. Don’t know what
to blog about? Ask your author friends to guest blog. They love the free promo.
Follow other author’s blogs. There are a lot of very interesting things to learn from
other authors. And leave comments on their blogs. It gets your name recognized.
3. Join the online author group for your publisher. Join other groups for your genre. Join
lots of groups. You’ll figure out which ones are most helpful in short order. You can
even start your own group. Invite fellow authors and readers to join.
4. Get a Twitter account in your author name. Though I personally don’t care for Twitter
because I have too much to say in 140 characters, there are an awful lot of authors
who have great success with it. And a lot of people who buy books love Twitter.
5. Websites…pros and cons to websites. Pro—it’s one more place to have exposure.
Con—it’s one more place to have exposure. One more place you have to constantly
maintain. And if you don’t have good computer skills, it can be a time-consuming and
painful experience. Which means you’ll have to hire someone to create and maintain
it for you. Go back to #2…you can start with a Blogger or Wordpress blog and work
your way up from there. They’re becoming more acceptable for writers just starting
out to use as a website as well. But once you get established, you need a real website.
6. Find out if your publisher submits their releases to review sites. If they don’t, you
need to do it yourself. I own a review site, it gets lots of hits every day. Readers
find review sites valuable tools for determining which books they’re going to spend
their hard-earned money on. The more reviews you get, the more books you’ll sell.
And don’t forget to link back to those reviews on your Facebook, blog, website and
Twitter.
One last thing…not really necessary but I think every author should do it. Even if you don’t have a real website yet, go ahead and lease or purchase your domain name before someone else does. I use GoDaddy.com and I’ve leased every ValerieMann domain I can afford. GoDaddy will bundle them for you as a package, too. Another thing I did was register my author name with every free email provider. I only use one of them, but I have Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, Rocketmail, Live, etc. in my author name now. So nobody else can take them from me! I guess mom was right—I don’t like to share!
I hope this list of promotion and marketing ideas helps you. I’ve got tons more and I help companies and authors every day with ideas and strategies so they can sell, sell, sell. Feel free to email me with any issues you may have ~ valeriemann09@yahoo.com
